South Central Railway was established in year 1966 at the time of merger of two division named Southern Railway and Sholapurand Secunderabad Divisions of Central Railway. Their official website is www.scr.indianrailways.gov.in. Later on Secunderabad Division was split into two Divisions named Secunderabad and Hyderabad in 1978. South central railway covers Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamilnadu & Madhya Pradesh states.
In present South Central Railway have 6 divisions, Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntakal, Guntur and Nanded. It covers six states. It covers total 689 stations. Around 699 trains run as passenger trains daily. It includes 84,145 staff members in its department.
The railway department is going to start its diesel & electric workshops at guntupali, guntakal, gooty, kazipet, Vijayawada, moula-ali, lalaguda.
There are about 40,000 railway quarters in secunderabad for railway officers. These quarters are located at various areas like Lancer Lines, Lancer Barracks, OCO Compound, Rail Nilayam Colony, South Lallaguda, Bhoiguda & Kachiguda.
